Chamber president & CEO Bryan Derreberry has stated that the number one economic develop issue around the globe is how to attract professional talent, integrate it into your business and community, and keep it long-term. With young professional indicating they will pick where they live before they pick where they go to work, the talent war is on. The Wichita Metro Chamber’s Chairman’s Breakfast on July 17 featured Rebecca Ryan, Next Generation Consulting, and focused on how Wichita can become a community of choice for young professionals and what company leaders must do to attract the best young talent. In her engaging and entertaining presentation to more than 200 business professionals, Rebecca Ryan illustrated generational differences, three main reasons why you should care about young professionals, how to increase your community’s stickiness by paying attention to seven indexes, and how your company can become a young talent magnet. So, when was your last generational moment? (One of those interactions you had with someone and you walked away thinking, “Wow, they are from a different generation.”) How did you or your company handle it? With our community and organization’s future resting heavily on attracting, engaging and retaining the next generation, it’s imperative that we learn to tell our story and specifically target market to young professionals.
